O.Lyle Eddy was born October 18, 1918 in Canton, Fillmore County, to Edgar and Ida (Anderson) Eddy. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. When Lyle was a young boy the family moved to Nelson. Lyle attended Nelson schools and loved to participate in 4-H where he began to know the founder of 4-H in Minnesota, T.A. "Dad" Erickson. On May 8 1945, Lyle was united in marriage at the First English Church in Alexandria to Violet Irene Johnson from Kensington. They first farmed in Douglas County near Lake Bergen and then Garfield, prior to purchasing their farm in 1956 one mile west of Garfield. Lyle enjoyed farming, his cows, pigs and horses and loved to hunt and fish (and tell fish stories). The couple wintered in Arizona from 1988-1998. Lyle and Violet enjoyed their retirement days, living on their farm until 1988, and then moving to a farm close by their family farm in which he was able to assist his two sons, Lonnie and Kevin, while they continued to farm. He died following a brief illness on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. Lyle is survived by his wife, Violet of Brandon; children Joanne (Fritz) Loeffler of Pace, Florida, Gary (Mary) Eddy of Alexandria, Cheryl (John) Peterson of Brandon, Kevin (Janell) Eddy of Garfield, Lonnie (Cari) Eddy of Garfield, and Tami (Robert) Kraft of Pine City; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin (Elnora) Eddy of Nelson; sister, Dora (Hobart) Spicer of Linden, CA; many neices and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon, Warren, Orville, Byron and Willard; sisters, Gladys Hanson and Nora Vickerman Fisher; and a grandson, Chad Eddy. A funeral service was held Frebruary 28 at St. Luke's Lutheran church in Garfield with Rev. David Gran officiating. Music was provded by Bruce and Audrey Aga. Interment was at the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Meichsner, Tina Eddy, Leigh Barron, Rashal Peterson, Kelsey Loeffler, Carley Eddy, Christine Kraft adn Sarah Kraft. Pallbearers were Jason Leffler, Chris Eddy, Josh Eddy, Jeremy Peterson, Cole Eddy, Andy Eddy, Mtchell Eddy, Jesse Kraft and Anthony Kraft. Anderson Funeral home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements.
