Marvin Eugene Eddy was born on December 6, 1922, on the family farm at Nelson, MN the son of Edgar and Ida (Anderson) Eddy. Marvy attended Nelson and Central School. He was baptized, confirmed, married and was a life time member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Nelson.
In 1941, Marvy enlisted into the United States Navy. He served during World War II, aboard the USS St. Louis a light cruiser, as a Gunner's Mate, second class. He received medals for the American Area Campaign, Word War II Victory, Asiatic/Pacific Area Campaign and the Philippines Liberation. Marvy was also cited for courage and meritorious action while repelling kamikaze pilot's attacking his ship. When the St. Louis was struck in the bow by a torpedo, Marvin's knees and back were injured from the shock of the explosion. In February of 1946 Marvin was honorably discharged due the injury.
Following his discharge Marvin came back to Nelson to the family farm. He married Elenora Sather on October 30, 1946 and celebrated 70 years of marriage this past October. Marvy and Elenora bought the Eddy farm. They have four children: Dennis, Nancy, Michael and Lynnette.
Marvin was an avid sportsman. He loved to fish and hunt. He always enjoyed the animals on the farm. After he retired from milking, Marvy started a huge garden. He would putter around for hours and was so proud of it. In addition, he enjoyed playing pool, shaking dice and playing cards.
He served on the Nelson Creamery Board, Nelson Men's Club, was a member of the VFW and DAV.
On Saturday, June 3, 2017 Marvin passed away during his brief stay at St. Williams in Parkers Prairie.
