Stella Burton Kitts, of Bassett, died Saturday, March 27, 1993. The soul of Stella Burton Kitts departed this world of tears and pain to be with her God that she loved and served, to a new life of sunshine and happiness. At her death, she was surrounded by those who had so lovingly attended her needs these last few weeks of illness. She was born in Bland County, Va., the daughter of the late James Andrew and Cora Corder Burton. She chose as her career to be the loving wife of the late Charles Henderson Kitts and the wonderful mother to her three daughters, Dorothy K. Bopp of Pulaski, Nancy K. Bradshaw of Horsepasture, and June K. Leftwich of the home at 108 Lee Road in Hillcrest Park, Bassett. She was "Ganny" to Sue and Charles Bopp, Lynn Shankman, Charles and John Bradshaw, Jim Leftwich and Beth L. Steele. She was "Greatganny" to four great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons. Two sisters survive, Alma Thompson of Dublin, and Leona Strause of Bland; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett, and at other times the family will be receiving friends at the home on Lee Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bassett Rescue Squad. The family requests the privilege of honoring Stella's request of a funeral service at the Stanleytown United Methodist Church, where she was a member, Monday, at 2 p.m. with burial beside her beloved husband at Roselawn Burial Park. She was our strength, our spiritual leader, she was our hero, she was the wind beneath our wings.
