November 7th, 1936 Prosper was married in Joplin to Hazel B. Olson, formerly of Ambrose, North Dakota. They made their home in Joplin where Prosper farmed. In 1940 he went into the meat market business with his brother, Clifford. That year they opened the Joplin Meat Market and operated the business as partners in the same location for the next 35 years. In 1975 they retired and sold the meat business. Prosper continued to farm until 1983. He made his home in the Joplin community his entire life.
Following a five week stay in the Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls. Prosper died there on evening of Sunday, March 25th. He was 79 years old.
Prosper was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. In fact, he was the first baby to be baptized there. He was also confirmed at Bethel and sang in the church choir for many years. He was proud of the fact that their meat market was one of the first stores in Montana to have rental freezer lockers for public use.
In his younger years Prosper enjoyed fishing and hunting big game animals. He also loved to read, enjoyed vegetable gardening, and was an avid sports fan. Many old friends affectionately called him "Doc". He loved his family and never regretted his 53 years of happy times with Hazel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David of Joplin; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Kent Meldrum of Joplin; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; two brothers, Sanford of Joplin and Robert of Augusta; two sisters, Laura Beatty of Great Falls and Mildred Overgaard of Plentywood and numerous nephews and nieces. Prosper was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clifford, Morris and Donald.
Funeral services were held at Bethel Church. Interment was in Joplin Cemetery.
