Sanford "Spike" Lewis Anderson died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at his home in Helena. He was born in Joplin May 1, 1912, to A.B. and Mayme (LaValley) Anderson. He grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School in 1930.

Spike married Thelma Marguerite Freeland July 29, 1933, at Chinook. She preceded him in death in 1998. They made their home on the Anderson farm north of Joplin where they farmed until 1982. They continued to make their home in Joplin until the fall of 1996, when they moved south to Helena to spend their winters near family, and still continued to summer in Joplin. In 2001, Spike made Helena his permanent home.

Spike was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Joplin and attended services at our Redeemer's Lutheran Church while residing in Helena.

Spike is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Lou) McKee of Tucson, Ariz.; Jan (Jim) Anderson of Helena, and Gail (Larry Vogl) Olson of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lil Anderson of Great Falls; sister-in-law, Hazel Anderson of Chester, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. April 26 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Joplin. Burial will follow in Joplin Cemetery with arrangements by Rockman Funeral Chapel.
