From Nevada Representative December 28, 1909 (page 5)
The funeral of James E. Batman was held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church and not withstanding biting cold was largely attended. James Ferguson Post of the G. A. R. was in charge, members of the post were pall bearers and the Woman's Relief Corp were in attendance. Dr. T. E. Hunter led the services with impressive lessons of counsel and comfort form the Psalms; Rev. W. P. Payne paid tribute to the deceased as friend, neighbor, citizen and patriot; a quartette sang fine old hymns and Frank Ingalls touched hearts with his rendering of Phoebe Carey's lines, "I'm nearer my home today than I have been before." Interment was in the family lot at the cemetery.

Her twin sister, Miss Elizabeth Purkhiser is in Des Moines and was not well enough to come up here for the funeral.
