Daily Post Athenian Bessie Mae Curtis Bessie Mae Curtis, 81, of Ocoee, died Thursday, July 8, 2004. A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, she was a daughter of the late W.A. "Bill" and Emma Lingerfelt Dockery and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Curtis; one daughter, Ethel Mae Curtis; one brother, Dillard Dockery; and one sister, Susie Mull. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Katherine and John Kyker of Madisonville, and Judy and Odis Ballew of Etowah; one son, Ronnie Curtis of Etowah; five brothers and sisters, Margaret Yarber of Cleveland, Bertha Whitner of Madisonville, Jim Dockery of Etowah, Marion Dockery of Etowah, and Ray Dockery of Michigan; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Shaun King officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, concluding with a white dove release provided by the funeral home. The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home of Etowah was in charge of arrangements.
