MACKLIN FUNERAL AT DECATUR TODAY

ROBERT I. MACKLIN, 48, DIES UNEXPECTEDLY ON SUNDAY

Decatur, March 13-Robert I. Macklin, 48, prominent in civic, church and fraternal organizations of this city, died suddenly at 11:30 o'clock Sunday night at his home, 703 Winchester Street, following a heart attack.

Mr. Macklin was a nephew of the late Mrs. Arthur Zehr, former Berne postmaster.

Mr. Macklin, associated with his mother and brothers in the Phil L. Macklin Co., auto dealers here, had suffered a similar attack last summer, but had apparently recovered and returned to work several weeks ago.

A native of Decatur, he was born here Sept. 28, 1908, a son of Phil L. and Lola Jackson-Macklin. His late father was a former Decatur postmaster. He was married to Anita York March 27, 1935.

Mr. Macklin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder, the Blue Lodge of the Decatur Masons, was worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star, member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Fort Wayne, The Decatur Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He graduated from the Decatur High School in 1926, and attended Butler and Indiana Universities. He was employed for several years with the Indiana State Board of Health and State Forestry Service, and then with the John Hancock Life Insurance Co. at Evansville until 1946, when he moved to Decatur and became associated with the Phil L. Macklin Co. A veteran of World War II, he was in service for three years, much of the time in the European theater.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, are three brothers, Wendell and Richard Macklin, both of Decatur and David Macklin, of Preble, Decatur attorney, and three sisters, Mrs. Ralph Tyndall of Bluffton, Mrs. John L. DeVoss and Mrs. Chalmer DeBolt, both of Decatur.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Ray J. Walther officiating. Burial was in the Decatur Cemetery.
