November 12, 1925 - May 29, 2012

John E. Alderson, 86, of Peru, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11a.m. at the Ottawa First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. David Alderson, his son officiating. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Peru Veteran's Memorial Group. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.

Mr. Alderson was born November 12, 1925 in Galesburg to W.W. and Dorothy (Grim) Alderson. He married Mary Ellen Stewart on October 18, 1947 in Galesburg. She passed away July 21, 2010. He was an electrical engineer for Illinois Power retiring after 38 years of service. John served in the Navy on the USS Raymond W. Herndon during WWII.

He was a member of the Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene in Peru, former board of trustees of Olivet Nazarene University, served on the advisory board for the Northwestern Illinois District Church of the Nazarene, and was a former school board member of the Peru School District 124. John was a delegate of 5 Church of the Nazarene General Assemblies. He coached his sons throughout their little league careers.

He is survived by 3 sons, Rev. David (Patti) Alderson of Ottawa, Tim (Kathy) Alderson, of Tampa Bay, FL and Sam (Joslyn) Alderson, of Vancouver, British Columbia; 1 daughter, Sherry (Ronald) Curran, of Rogers CT; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Richard (Louise) Alderson of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Louise Peterson of Galesburg and Nancy (Harvey) Templeton of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Ellen.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Pagan, Dan Lee, Jeremy Alderson, Ron Curran, Ron S. Curran, Gene Ryone. Honorary pallbearers will be Aidan Alderson and Tristan Alderson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
