Joseph Wilmer Curtis, 73, Aurora, Utah, former Sevier County Commissioner and prominent church and civic leader, died on June 22, 1978 at his home.

He served as commissioner for a 4 year term. He previously served as a term as mayor of Aurora and two terms as a member of the town council.

He was a member of the Piute Irrigation board of directors for 30 years and was employed by Salina Auction for 30 years. He was a charter member of the Salina Riding Club.

He donated land to Aurora town for a storage pond to be used in connection with the Church, he was a high priest and had served as a member of the ward Sunday School presidency and president of the Ward MIA. He was a home teacher.

He was born December 25, 1904, Aurora, Utah, to Lorenzo Snow and Eliza Isabell Mott Curtis. He married Amy Violet Durfee on June 2, 1926 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died on December 25, 1943. He married Bessie Powell Nelson on December 29, 1944 in Glenwood, Utah.

Survivors wife; son Joseph Ivo, both Aurora, Utah; daughter Mrs. Don (Colleen) Nielsen, Gunnison, Utah; stepdaughters, Mrs. Dale (Gae) Mangrum, Cold Spring, New York; Mrs. Kendall (Nadine) Shaw, Aurora, Utah; Mrs. Terry (Marilyn) Williams, Salt Lake City, Utah; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, sister, Floyd, Mrs. Otto (Ruby) Taylor, both Aurora, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife Amy Violet Curtis.

Funeral services were held on Monday June 26, 1978 at the Aurora Ward. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery under direction by Warren R. Jensen Funeral Home, Salina, Utah.
