Agnes E. was born to Karl August and Henrietta Christina Schön in Pommern, Prussia. She immigrated with her parents and 2 brothers, Adolph Richter and Edward Richter, leaving the Port of Bremen, Germany on the passenger ship, Roland, and arriving at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on November 14, 1862. Her Uncle and Aunt, Reinhard and Albertine (Rodenwald) Richter immigrated with them. The families traveled to Jefferson County, Wisconsin where they farmed for several years before going to Albany, Stearns, Minnesota.

She married August K. Koeneman on March 28, 1883 in Freeport, Minnesota. August and Agnes had 9 children. August was a Road Master for the Great Northern Railroad for many years.

Left to mourn her death were her sons, Egmund Alfred (Luverne Bryant) Koeneman, Martin Ervin (Renata Mueller) Koeneman and Waldemar Ernest (Barbara Gorder) Koeneman; daughters, Emma Elizabeth Koeneman, Clara Adeheid Koeneman, Elsa Maria (Paul) Gutnehct, Josephine Laura Koeneman, Lydia Koeneman and Agnes (Norman Gardner; and sisters, Otillia (Ernest) Feierabend and Helen (Frank) Schellen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers; Adolph Gustav (widower of wife, Louise Bartholomae) Richter and Edward Henry (Frederika Hohensee) Richter.

The funeral was held on October 22, 1947 with burial following the service.
