Edward Henry was born to Karl August and Henrietta Christina (Schön) Richter in Pommern, Prussia. The family immigrated to America leaving the Port of Bremen, Germany arriving in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on the gassenger ship, "Roland" on November 14, 1862. The family went to Jefferson County, Wisconsin where his parents obtained land. In about 1872, the family moved to a farm near Albany, Minnesoa. He married Frederika Katherine Hohensse on March 21, 1888 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The witnesses were J. M. Sullivan and H. D. Jones. The WPA Interview states: "After their marriage they made their home on a farm north of Albany for three years. Next he found employment on the Great Northern Railway and for six years resided at Moorehead, North Dakota. (should be Moorehead, Minnesota) When the Soo Line Railroad was built through Albany, the family returned and he was employed as section foreman for the Soo Line for fourteen years. After his retirement in 1922, the family made their home on the old Richter farm. Here he died." They had 6 children. Left to mourn his death was his wife; son, Roland Alex; daughters, Ida Ottile (Henry) Spencer, Elsie Diona (Frank) Kappes, and Dorothy Helen (John) Weivoda; brothers, Adolph Gustav and Gustav Ferdinand; and sisters, Agnes (August) Koenemann, Ottila Louise (Ernest) Feierabend, and Helen (Frank) Schellin. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edwin Ottomar; daughter, Sophia Antoinette; Unknown sibling in Pommern; and sisters, Fransisca Emma, Maria Christiana, and Emma Franziska. Burial took place on July 17, 1929.
