This long-time Garland resident passed away May 15, 2012 at the age of 87. Mrs. Borchardt was born on December 7, 1924 in Lewisville, TX. She married the late Robert J. Borchardt on April 15, 1942, and moved to Garland in 1948. They established Borchardt's Carpet Rack on the Garland square in the mid-sixties. Mrs. Borchardt was a beloved employee of State Farm Insurance before her retirement. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Rowlett, an avid gardener and enjoyed travel. Most of all, she loved caring for her family and many friends. Mrs. Borchardt was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Borchardt; her father Richard G. Freed; her mother W. Inez Freed; her sisters, Frances Freed Mays, Judy Freed Bradfield, Georgia Freed Holcomb, and her brother Richard L. Freed. She is survived by her son J. Osby Borchardt (Linda) of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Brigitte Borchardt Hubbard (Brooks) of Nashville, TN; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Gray Hubbard of Nashville, TN; her brothers, James Freed of Lewisville, TX, Mickey Freed of Bedford, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Williams Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer Research Fund.
