Mr. Devane was born in Bullock County, Georgia on January 1, 1827. In 1861 Mr. Devane joined the Taylor County home guard unit "Taylor Eagles" commanded by Captain John M. Hendry. he says in his pension request that the Company went from Tallahassee to Saint Marks then to Fernandina and then the Company was disbanded. In December, 1862 he enlisted in the 4th Florida Infantry, Captain Beggs Company B. Later he was in 11th Florida Infantry Company E. He was captured in April 6, 1865 and was released at Newport News Virginia, July 1865. He applied for a soldier's pension in Taylor County in 1909. His records show he owned 80 acres in Taylor County. His address was RFD #1 Perry, Florida. Mr. Devane died April 4, 1911 in Taylor County.
