Frank Ludwig Chilton Times May 25, 1929

Frank Ludwig, Sr., of the town of Stockbridge, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alfred Penning, on Monday morning, following an illness of about two months. Mr. Ludwig suffered a stroke two months ago and had partially recovered from its effects when he was stricken again last Tuesday. He failed to show any improvement following the second stroke, death claiming him on Monday morning.
Frank Ludwig, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Ludwig, was born in Germany on Dec. 30, 1853. He came to this country with his parents in 1855, settling on the farm in South Stockbridge which was his home all his life. On May 28, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Magdelena Roell, and they resided on the homestead until the death of his wife on June 20, 1920. Following the death of this wife he lived on the homestead with his son, Edmund, until about two months ago, when the farm was sold to Alfred Penning, his son-in-law, with whom he then make his home.
He was the father of twelve children, seven boys and five girls, ten of whom survive him. They are Jacob of this city, Fred of Charlestown, Otto and Leo of Stockbridge town, Andrew of Plymouth, Charles of Sheboygan and Edmund of the town of Brothertown, Mrs. Alfred Penning, Misses Leona and Lorene of Stockbridge town. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren.
The deceased was a man of sterling character and integrity. He came to the town of Stockbridge in the fifties and assisted his parents in developing a farm in what was then practically a wilderness. In later years, when he took over the farm as his own, he continued its improvement until today it is one of the best in that section of the county. He was a kind and loving husband and father and left nothing undone that would add to the comfort of his wife and children.
Funeral services were held from St. Elizabeth's church at Kloten, of which the deceased was a life long member. Rev. Fr. Jos. Rauch officiated with interment in the family lot in the church cemetery.
