Delores was born July 24, 1914, in Adair, Iowa, a daughter of the late Archibald Bain and Stella Evans Bain. She was a member of the Two Ripple Baptist Church and attended Antioch Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Pioneers, Two Ripple Homemakers Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 113, where she held the office of Ruth and was a 27 year member. She was a prolific poet, not beginning her writings until after the age of 50, and was the 1985 Wirt County Belle.
She is survived by three sisters, Norma Jean Vardaman, Betty Watkins and Glenola "Skeet" Eddy; eight grandsons, two granddaughters; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her beloved pet companion, Penny.
In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Patterson; two sons, Charles L. Patterson, Jr., and Harry Lee Patterson; one brother, Lawson Bain; three sisters, Virginia Wehrkamp, Blanche Freeland and Juanita "Joni" Howard; and two half sisters, Adelia Learned and Gladys Cuttler; and one grandson, Shawn Allen Patterson.
Services were Monday afternoon at the Busch-Kimes Funeral Home of Elizabeth, with Pastor Larry Lee Patterson and Pastor Lewis Villers officiating. Burial followed at the K. of P. Cemetery. An Eastern Star memorial service was conducted Monday evening, April 2, at the funeral home.
