Emmaline was the daughter of Samuel Bradley, Jr. and Mary Bradley Bradley [the daughter of Matthew Bradley]. In the will of her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth GORDON Bradley, written 17 August 1812 in Salem, Sumter District, South Carolina, Elizabeth was named "my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Emelin the daughter of my Son Samuel." Application was made at Sumter District, South Carolina on 1 February 1819 for a marriage license to join "William Shaw and Emeline Bradley in the Holy State of Matrimony." The couple were second cousins. She and William had eleven children (M. L. P. Bailey via Find a Grave 10/31/2015).
