Jack M. Scruggs, age 78, of Main Street, Willisburg, passed away at 7:21 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home. A native of Washington County, he was born on April 17, 1933 to the late Richard Berry and Minnie Colvin Scruggs.

He was a member of the Willisburg Christian Church, a member of the J. Speed Smith Masonic Lodge # 298 F&AM at Willisburg, a 1951 graduate of Willisburg High School, a retired truck driver and a farmer.

Preceding him in death were a son, Dennis Scruggs on May 9, 1984; a brother, Walter Scruggs; a half-sister, Dove Myers; and a half-brother, Curtis Scruggs.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Ward Scruggs; two daughters, Monica Barnett and Becky Burkhead and her husband, Rickey, all of Willisburg; six grandchildren, Lee McIntire, Willis Barnett, Casee Barnett, Paul Burkhead, Stephanie Burkhead and Alicia Kelly; and four great-grandchildren, Owen Burkhead, Jonathan McIntire, Kendall Barnett and Evan Kelly.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 27 at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen, minister of the Willisburg Christian Church, officiating.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg. Serving as pallbearers were Lee McIntire, Willis Barnett, Casee Barnett, Paul Burkhead, Stephanie Burkhead and Derek Kelly. A masonic service was held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home with Billy Riggs delivering the eulogy. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
