Sam B Mays, formerly of Edgefield and Greenwood, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home in Chicago of a heart attack.

Funeral services in Chicago with a memorial service by his American Legion Post. Mr Mays, 59, was a Veteran of WWl.

Interment in (Greenwood Cemetery) New Orleans, the home city of his wife, the former Miss Celeste Owens.

Survived by his wife and a daughter, Miss Frances Mays of New York City; a brother, Calhoun A Mays, and 3 sisters; Mrs Eugene H Blake, Mrs D G Gambrell and Miss Ella Mays all of Greenwood.

Sampson Butler Mays, Jr was the youngest son of the late Sampson Butler Mays and Ella Calhoun Mays of old Edgefield and Abbeville County families.

Besides Greenwood relatives, a large connection survives, principally in Edgefield, Columbia and Augusta.

Before entering the service, Mr Mays worked for about two years in Greenwood. Since the war, he had been mid-western Sales Manager for Colonial Paint Works of New York.

C A Mays flew to Chicago yesterday for the funeral. He had been with his brother last week while attending the meeting of the American Bar Association in Chicago and his brother had been well at that time.
