Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Humphreys Chapel in Iberia for Johnnie Elza Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship died Friday at Humphreys Hospital in Tuscumbia just five days after his 86th birthday.
Mr. Blankenship, the son of Joe and Josephine Blankenship, was born in Macon County on Nov. 6, 1874. On Dec. 23, 1899, he was married to Emma Jan Hensley. They were the parents of five children. Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by his wife on July 18, 1953.
Early in life he united with the Hickory Point Baptist Church where he retained his membership until his death.
He leaves three sons, Ora and Barney of Iberia and Lloyd of Burbank, Calif.; two daughters, Isa Hopkins of Kansas City, Kan., and Ruby Ponder of Granite City, Ill.; two sisters, Gertie Jarrett of Jefferson City and Nellie Lewis of Iberia; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Don Tyler officiated at the services Sunday. Interment was in the Iberia Cemetery.
