John Earl Rhodes, age 90, of Saluda, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday afternoon, May 6, 2012, in Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.

Born in Greenville, SC, son of Burton Jonas Rhodes (1880–1942) and Bertha Barton Rhodes Brown (1902–1997); husband of Hazel Ruth Middleton Rhodes (1926–2017).

A veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Army where he received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star; was an electrician by trade and had worked many years with Pace Electric; retired from the City of Saluda as Maintenance Supervisor in l992 after more than 20 years of service; was a member of the VFW Post #5206 in Hendersonville, NC, the Saluda Lions Club, and a member of Saluda First Baptist Church.

Other survivors include his daughters, Patricia R. Ross (Bob) and Gail Bailey-Heaton (Steve); three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 10, 2012, in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Sherrill Moore, Don Mintz, and Jerry Russell officiating; burial was in the Saluda City Cemetery, Saluda, NC with military rites by VFW Post #5206, Hendersonville, NC.

The family received friends from 1:00-1:45 pm before the service in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

Memorials could be made to Saluda Fire and Rescue, Saluda, NC, or the American Diabetes Association, Alexandria, VA.
