Grandpa Rhodes worked variously in logging, farming, and even kept a store for a time; but his love was church music. He was a shaped-note music teacher; and my one real memory of him was sitting on his lap while he played the piano and sang. I was less than five when he died. Grandpa and Etta had a total of six children: Pauline, Carlee, twins Mable and Max (Dad), and two sons who were stillborn. After Etta died in 1913, Grandpa married Bertha Barton. Their children were Sally and John.
