Morris Gordon, 76, who was active in Jewish organizations all his life, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's hospital. The cause of death was not immediately known, but his family said he had been suffering from lung cancer. Gordon of 4333 N. Oakland Avenue, Shorewood, emigrated from Russia in 1904 and lived in the Milwaukee area from 1915. He was a past president of Beth-El Ner Tamid Synagogue, Zionist Organization of America, the Bureau of Jewish Education and the Ha Ko Di Mo social club. He also served as vice president of the former Jewish Orphans Home, now known as the Jewish Family and Childrens Service and a director of the Milwaukee Jewish Council and the Technion Society. He received the Louis D. Brandeis award for his work with the Zionist Organization of America and was honoree of the Israeli Bond Drive. He originated the Blue Box Collection of the Jewish National Fund and was a past general chairman of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and Welfare Fund.
For 25 years Gordon worked for Consumers Waste Co. for which he was vice president.In more recent years he worked for Walter R. Gustin and Associates insurance agency and later for the Reuter and Associates insurance agency, where he was employed at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth;two daughters, Mrs. Doris (Paul) Katz and Mrs. Joyce (Irving) Kahn both of Bayside and two sisters, Mrs. Grace (Ben) Asman, Glendale and Mrs. Rose Saxe, Milwaukee.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday at the Goodman-Bensman Funeral home. Burial will be at Mound Zion Cemetery.
Mikayla Katz, Michael Dais and Matthew Cory Zigan were all name in his memory.
