Johnnie Napoleon Parrish, Sr. was the grandson of Needham Harrison Parrish and Harriett Anne Beck Parrish; son of John Thomas Parrish and Sallie Hoffer Parrish. He married Josie Irene McElroy January 1, 1923 in Big Spring, TX, and was married 64 years before death parted them. Their children were Hattie Fay, Johnnie N. Jr., David Ray, Frank Collins, Frances Marie, Melvin Joseph and Mary Ann Parrish.

He was a committed member of the Church of Christ. He served as an elder in the church for some years. Even into his 90s he visited the sick and the "old folks" with the minister.

Prior to marriage, he worked on ranches. After retiring from the Santa Fe Railroad at 65, he worked in his yard and garden several hours each day--other than during the coldest part of the winter or during rain. Between Johnnie and God, it was truly a garden showplace.

He served his country in World War I and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

HE WAS TRULY A GODLY MAN.
