Mary Sheldon's mother Lucy died when she was nine years old, and she was raised by her stepmother, Chloe (Bixby) Sheldon. She married Parker Page in Vermont in 1815, but he soon died. She then married Stoddard Hamilton in 1818, and they moved from Vermont to Springwater, New York. Together, they raised eight children: Lucy Louise, wife of Robert McMaster; Parker Page, husband of Minerva Brewer; Flavilla, wife of John McKenzie; Flavel S., husband of Martha Wicks and Sophia Hill; Mary Emily, who never married; Martha L., wife of Joseph A. Washburn; Linus Sheldon, husband of Sarah Hall; and Cornelia, wife of Edward Young. After the death of Stoddard Hamilton in 1865, Mary moved with many of her children to Calhoun County, Michigan, where she spent her later years.

Mrs. Mary Hamilton, mother of P. P. Hamilton, died in Eckford on the eve of the 21st of July, aged 89 years. The funeral was held to-day at the Eckford church.
