Jim spent his early years in University Place, graduating from the University Place Elementary School in the 8th grade. After graduating high school in Bellflower, CA, Jim served his country as a corpsman in the United States Marine Corps. It was during those days that his daughter Joy was born to him and he developed his appreciation of sailing. Jim did many things over his life, from car detailing to finally settling down as a bookkeeper. He enjoyed family reunions, stories from the old days, auto detailing, traveling on the open road, movies (especially Westerns), baseball, oldies music, fishing, rodeos, odd popcorn balls, peanut butter meatloaf, and a good yarn B especially the ones his brother Duke would tell!
