Adeline Umbach, 24, and Anthony Gies, 22, were married on May 16, 1893, in New Hamburg, Ontario. Ten months later, a daughter Helma was born on March 9, 1974, and a year after that, a son Howard was born on March 6, 1875. The births of the two children completed the family.
Anthony and Adeline resided on a farm west of St. Jacobs, property previously owned by Anthony's father, Charles Gies. In 1921, Anthony and Adeline moved to the village of St. Jacobs, and the farm was taken over by son Howard, newly-wed to Amy Niebergall.
Adeline died at her home in St. Jacobs on October 9, 1933.
