Davis was the second of seven children born to Abel C. Ames (1814-1883) and Rebecca Dunham on 7 Jan.1841 in Sandusky, Ohio. His siblings were Susan (b.1842), (Davis here in 1844), Hiram (b.1846), Anna (b.1851), M. (daughter) (b.1854), Abel (b.1857), and George (b.1863).

When he was 18 years old, he enlisted in the Union Army on 24 Aug.1862 as a private in Company I of the 21st Ohio Infantry. He mustered out on 5 Jun.1865.

On 28 Dec.1873, Davis wed Nancy Jane Baker in Marshall co., Indiana. On 11 Sep.1874 the couple welcomed son Guy A. Nancy died two years later in 1876.

I found Davis on the 1880 census. He had moved back in with his parents Abel and Rebecca, brothers Abel and George and sister Anna Reese and her two children Elmer and Ralph who were living in North Twp. Little Guy was living with his maternal grandparents Hiram and Eliza Ann Baker, also in North Twp. which is today Plymouth, Indiana.

Guy would eventually marry Bertha E. Murphy on 28 Nov.1895 and they would have two children--Russell S. (b.1898) and Glenn Arthur (1906-1990).
