Frederick T. Stier was the third son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Stier.
Frederick enlisted in the Confederate Army during the Civil War between March 4 & March 14, 1862 in Fulton County, Georgia. He trained at Camp McDonald in Kennesaw, Cobb County, Georgia with the 42nd. Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company K. During the battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, he along with his regiment and company were captured on July 4, 1863.
According to his military records, On Oct. 15, 1863, he was promoted to full 1st Corporal. He was discharged on April 9, 1865 when the Confederate Army surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina.
(A side note: Frederick T. Stier's father also served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was mustered into service on May 18, 1861 at the age of 60. His military record shows that he was selected as a musician (drummer) and received a disability discharge on Oct. 9, 1861.)
Frederick's brother, William Stier was also in the Civil War. He served in the North Carolina 13th Infantry Regiment in Company I. He was taken prisoner on May 6, 1864 at Wilderness, Virginia and taken to Point Lookout prison camp in Maryland where he died on June 22, 1864.
On March 1, 1866, Frederick T. married Susan Frances Jackson in Palmetto, Fulton County, Georgia. Six children were born to them. They were:
