Elmer Leo Cunningham, 88, of West Lafayette, died at 2:45 AM Saturday, May 13, 2006, in the emergency room at Lafayette Home Hospital. Born March 6, 1918, in Carroll County, to the late Emerson E. and Alice Wood Cunningham, he had resided in Lafayette since 1956. He married Helen Jane Burkett on Nov. 25, 1935 in Logansport, and she survives.

Mr. Cunningham worked on the Monon Railroad for nine years, and later worked at Sears, retiring in 1982. After retirement, he drove a van for the Lafayette Eye Center. He was a member of Old Rails, Sears Retirees and Evangelical Covenant Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and had visited all 50 states, went through the Panama Canal, and visited Israel and Egypt.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Carol A. Stacy (husband Perry), Sharon L. Denhardt (husband Michael), and Diane K. Achgill (husband Ralph), all of Lafayette; a son-in-law, James A. White of Crown Point; 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two daughters, Jean Creviston and Linda White; two grandchildren, four brothers and a sister.
