John, son of David and Elizabeth Farnsworth, was born in Monroe County, Ohio, April 1, 1843, and passed away at his home in Unionville, January 16, 1932, being 88 years, 9 months, and 16 days. When but a boy, he with his parents, moved from their native state to the state of Iowa. When our county was torn with strife and Civil War he enlisted and fought three years with the Northern forces. At the close of the war he returned to Iowa where on November 6, 1866, he was united in marriage to Rachel Hall of Exline, Iowa. To this union were born five children three of whom survive, namely; Milt of Kansas city, Mo; Verta Wise of Des Moines, Iowa; and Charles of Centerville, Iowa. On September 9, 1880 the wife and mother passed away. He was then united in marriage to Laura Williams of Omaha, on January 24, 1882. (If he had lived one more week they would have been married fifty years) To this union five children were born, three of whom survive, namely, Everett, of Culbertson, Montana, Harry of Sams Valley, Oregon, and Leah Davis of the Home. He is also survived by two brothers, 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who with a host of other relatives and friends mourn his passing. Friends services were conducted at 1 o'clock on the afternoon Monday, January 19, at the Christian Church by Rev R L Burns officiating.
