Sedan - Margaret Irene Conner, 64, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at her home in Sedan.

She was born March 11, 1948 in Shidler, Oklahoma to Henry Coleman Smith and Billie Jean (Burke) Smith. She grew up in the Shidler area before moving to Sweetwater, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1966. After high school she married Gene Shaffer and they later divorced in 1980.

In February 1983, she married John Conner in Sweetwater, Texas. They moved to Sedan, Kansas in 1984. She worked at Mrs. Burden's Candy Factory, Kimarjo's Restaurant, and also Buck's Barbeque. In 2001 her and her husband John opened the Daylight Donut Shop in Sedan also known as Big Daddy's Bakery. They owned and operated it until selling the business in 2010.

She enjoyed bowling, gardening, collecting wolves of any kind, arts and crafts, painting, and especially loved spending time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, John Conner of the home in Sedan, Kansas; four daughters, Cheri Roden of Sweetwater, Texas, Leigh Angela Foster of Sedan, Kansas, Carol Shaffer of Lawrence, Kansas, and Dawn Conner of Abilene, Texas; one sister, Elaine Barth of Wisconsin; four brothers, Joe Smith of Chautauqua, Kansas, Ret. Major General Ray Smith of North Carolina, Lee Smith of Wisconsin, and Allen Smith of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren

Church Services will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas with Reverend Gary Boles of Moline, Kansas officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas.

Family and friends may call Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
