ATHENS BANKER COMMITS SUICIDE

Athens, La, May 27--This community was greatly shocked early this morning when it became known that Reese Baker, Cashier at the Athens Bank had committed suicide. The tragedy occurred at 7:30 o'clock this morning. Mr Baker, as was his custom, had gone to the bank at 6 o'clock in the morning to attend to correspondence and returned home at the usual hour. Shortly after his return, members of his family heard a revolver shot ring out, and hurrying to his room found him dead.

An air of mystery surrounds Mr. Baker's tragic end. He had shown no signs of ill health or despondency, and to all outward appearances was perfectly rational up to the time that he fired the fatal shot. He had been to church the night before and so far investigation now shows, his accounts at the bank are in good shape. While Mr. Baker left a letter, its contents throw very little light upon the reasons for his suicide, saying that he had always tried to live a good life.
