Dixie Physician Suffers Heart Attack While Making: a Call

Funeral services for Dr. L. T. Baker, 62, Dixie physician who died Monday, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Osborn funeral chapel. The Rev. Edward Short, pastor of Belcher-Dixie Presbyterian churches, will officiate. The Rev. W. A. Alexander, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Shreveport will assist. Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery.

Dr. Baker suffered a heart attack while making a call at a home located between Shreveport and Dixie about 7:30 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arriving there.

A native of Athens, La., Dr. Baker completed medical studies at the University of Nashville, Nashville, Tenn., about 1911. He interned at Shreveport Charity hospital, and began his practice in Dixie in 1912.

He was a member of the Charity Medical unit, the Highland sanitarium staff, and the Shreveport Medical Society. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa, medical fraternity. Dr. Baker was an elder In the Dixie Presbyterian church. He was affiliated with the Masonic lodge in Belcher, and was active in Scout work in this area.

Dr. Baker is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mattie Webb Baker; a daughter, Mrs. Mattie E. Davis of Shreveport; a son, L. T. Baker, Jr., Centenary college student; a grandson, Olen Davis II; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Belle Hill and Mrs. Jennie Crews, both of Shreveport, and Mrs. C. H. Barnes of Port Arthur, Texas; three brothers, Leon Baker of Minden, Claude Baker of Port Arthur, Texas, and E. P. Baker of San Antonio.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. Morgan W. Mathews, Dr. Baron Johns, Dr. M. S. LeDoux, Dr. W. F. Drummond, Dr. Dean H. Duncan, Dr. John Hendricks, Dr. T. B. Tooke, Jr., and L. C. Webb.

Honorary pallbearers will be officers and members of Dixie Presbyterian church, members of Shreveport Medical society, members of Norwell council of Boy Scouts of America and members of the Masonic lodge of Belcher.

Dr. L. T. Baker, Dixie Physician, Claimed by Death

Dr. L. T. Baker, about 65, prominent physician of Dixie, died suddenly about 9 a.m. Monday morning of a heart attack which he suffered while making a call about 7:30 a.m. at a home located between Shreveport and Dixie. He died a short time after arriving at a local sanitarium.

Funeral services will be held at the Osburn funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday and burial will follow in the Forest Park cemetery.

Dr. Baker was well known throughout Blanchard, Dixie, Mooringsport, and surrounding communities. He came to Dixie about 1912, moving there from Athens, La.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Webb Baker of Dixie; one daughter, Mrs. Mattie O. Davis of Shreveport; one son, L. G. Baker, a student at Centenary College, and a grandson, Olin Davis, II.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Carybelle Hill and Mrs. Kennie Crues, both of Shreveport, and Mrs. C. H. Barnes, Port Arthur. Texas; three brothers, Leon Baker, Minden; Claude Baker, Port Arthur, Texas, and E. T. Baker, San Antonio.
