William H. Carroll, Age 80, Dies

William Henry Carroll, 80 years of age, 705 Park Street, passed away at the Daviess County hospital Thursday, September 13th, after a serious illness of five weeks. Mr. Carroll was a retired barber and was a member of the Loogootee Methodist Church and the F&A-M Lodge of Loogootee.

Born on November 27, 1881, in Orange County, Mr. Carroll was the son of Hickman and Elizabeth [sic] (King) Carroll. He was married twice, first to Elsie Filtt who preceded him in death and on Sept. 2, 1906, he married Effie Evans and she survives.

Surviving besides the widow are the following children: Russell of Pana, Illinois; Roscoe of Mt. Vernon; William A. of Indianapolis; Mrs. Marcella Pruiett, Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins and Mrs. Betty Wilz, all of Washington. Two children, Bernice and George preceded him in death. There are 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Surviving also are five foster children: Jess Evans of Ferndale, Michigan; Floyd Evans of Worthington; Mrs. Mae Troutman of Montgomery; Mrs. Bessie Crumett of Oblong, Illinois and Paul Davis of Wyoming. Also a half-brother, Porter Carroll of Knightstown and a half sister, Mrs. Grace Howard of this city.

The funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Loogootee Methodist Church and burial was in the Goodwill cemetery. Rev. Walter Kilburn was the officiating minister. The Miller Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
