Col. Samuel E. Lawrence was a retired professor of hydraulic engineering at LSU and a veteran of World Wars I and II.

Survived by a son, Col. S.E. Lawrence Jr., Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Jack B. Stubbs and Miss Marian K. Lawrence, Baton Rouge, and a brother, Roy C. Lawrence, Fort Smith.

A 1907 graducate of Purdue University, he was named to the U.S. Engineers Department Hall of Fame. He was a member of the VFW, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Nicholson Post No. 38, American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, St. James Lodge No. 47, F&AM, Baton Rouge Consistory, Shrine Jerusalem Temple, Sigma Pi, Acacia Fraternity, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and Scabbard and Blade.
