Karl played the organ during Sunday services at the church in Brutus. He never took a lesson but played by ear. He was Justice of the Peace in Emmet County, Michigan. His main occupation was a farmer, raising potatoes, but he also had milking cows and a milk route in Pelston, (Emmet County) Michigan.
Karl died on October 2, 1924, in Maple River Township. He was 68 years old. The cause of death was Bright's disease. Karl is buried next to his wife, Pauline, in the Maple River Township Cemetery, along with several of their children.
