GAVIN WATSON SPORE
Gavin was the youngest of five children born to Margery Christine (Watson) and Lawrence "Elmo" Spore.

OBITAURY
Gavin Watson Spore, 85, Hotchkiss, died July 13, 2011, at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.

Survivors include two sons, Wes of Hotchkiss and Travis of Tuscon, Ariz.; two daughters, Debbie Ann Littlefield of Crawford and Shelly Lingle of Lena, Ill.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, with Pastor Jim Jesser officiating.

Mr. Spore was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Paonia, to Lawrence and Marjorie (Watson) Spore. He spent his childhood in Paonia and attended school on Stewart Mesa and in Hotchkiss. He graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1944.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Spore married JoAnna Van Oort on March 6, 1949, in Hotchkiss. They owned and operated the Gambles store in Hotchkiss for 46 years. They celebrated 48 years of marriage. She died on June 1, 1997.

He enjoyed building model trains, growing roses, spending time on his ranch and taking care of his horses. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Spore is survived by two sons, Wes Spore and his wife Carol of Hotchkiss, and Travis Spore and his partner Larry of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Marlin Littlefield of Crawford, and Shelly and Carl Lingle of Lena, Ill.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five nephews; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnna Spore; two brothers, Lawrence Spore and William Spore; two sisters, Mary Cairns and Marjorie "Monnie" Houseweart; and two nephews.
