LAWRENCE ELMO "BUD" SPORE
Bud was the grandson of Maude (Larrance) b. 1865 in New Boston, Mercer County, Illinois and William Lawrence Spore b. 1860 in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Longtime area resident, Lawrence E. "Bud" Spore, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta, Colorado. He was 90 years of age.

Funeral services honoring Bud's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Interment will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado with the Wilson Head American Legion Post #97 officiating.

Lawrence Elmo Spore was born to Lawrence Elmo and Margery Christine (Watson) Spore on February 5, 1921 in Paonia, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Paonia, attending school at the Bone Mesa School House.

Bud was a Purple Heart recipient, serving with the 306th Infantry Regiment 77th Division in the Philippines during World War II.

Bud married Idonna Faye Drake on November 8, 1946, in Delta, Colorado. Together they lived in Paonia until 1957 when he moved to Sapinero, then on to Gunnison where he was ranch foreman for LeValley Hereford Ranches until retiring to Cedaredge in 1983.

During his Gunnison years, Bud was a 4-H leader, loved riding horses and attending the annual Cattlemen's Days rodeos. In his retirement years he enjoyed watching the Denver Bronco games, yardwork, and keeping up on current events and world affairs. He looked forward to weekly visits with all his family members.

Bud is survived by his children: son, Bret Spore of Gunnison; daughter, Lana Williams (Bill) also of Gunnison; and daughter, Crystal Hansen (Bill) of Delta; his brother, Gavin Spore of Hotchkiss; eight grandchildren; and nineteen great grand children with one more on the way.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Spore; sisters, Mary Cairns and Margery Houseweart; and his wife of almost 60 years, Idonna.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
