ONLINE OBITUARY STATES: Mary Louise Cairns of Olathe died of natural causes Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Carla's Retreat in Olathe. She was 82. Memorial services will be conducted by Rev. Stephen Wengrovius on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m., at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Delta.
Mrs. Cairns was a homemaker. She had lived in Olathe for a year and a half. She was born on Oct. 10, 1917, in Paonia, to Lawrence "Elmo" and Margery Christine (Watson) Spore. She spent her childhood in Paonia. After graduating from Paonia High School, she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. She also lived in Vista and Escondido, Calif.
She married John Fredrick Cairns in West Los Angeles, Calif., on Sept. 21, 1936. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1977, in Vista, Calif.
Mrs. Cairns was a member of the Flower Club of Vista, Calif., and Quail Gardens in Carlsbad, Calif. She enjoyed gardening, basket weaving, cooking, reading and music.
She is survived by a son and his wife, John and Barbara Cairns of Cedaredge; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lawrence Elmo and Idonna Spore of Cedaredge, William Andrew and Pauline Spore of Gardena, Calif., and Gavin Spore of Hotchkiss; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Margery Maude "Monnie" Houseweart. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service.
