Paul Samuel Wheeler, age 80, of Black Mountain, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of McDowell County, Mr. Wheeler was born May 26, 1931 and was a son of the late Benjamin and Heddi Hollifield Wheeler. He retired from the US Army after 22 years of service. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Preceding Mr. Wheeler in death was a son, Shannon Wheeler.

Saddened by the loss of Mr. Wheeler are: Teressa Sparks, Hope Stringer, Ben Wheeler, Camilla Hallyburton, Starla Sparkman, Rodney Wheeler and Elana Amos, children and their mother, Lucy Calloway Price; brother, Arnold Wheeler and sister, Dorothy Melton; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 12:00 noon with Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating.
