The Oklahoman, Monday, May 5, 1997: James A. Griffin, 72, departed this life on May 1, 1997, and went to be with the Lord. He was born Jun 13, 1924 in Arcadia, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Lynn and an infant grandson, Timothy Power. Survivors are his wife, Barbara Powell Griffin; a daughter, Janet Holt and her husband Robert, their son, James Arthur Young; two nieces and a nephew.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Religion and Psychology from Texas Western College and a Masters in Education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. Mr Griffin had a distinguished military career in the Pacific in World War II and in 1950 was recalled by the US Marines to serve in Korea. After his military service he worked as a Boy Scout Field Executive in Oklahoma and taught history in Pryor. Later he served as Safety Coordinator for the State Dept of Education--Drivers Education Section. He was also a Lay Minister in the Methodist Church.

After retiring in 1990 he and his wife moved to Bangor, PA, and have been associated with Totts Gap Institute, a medical research facility. Graveside services at Rose Hill Cemetery, OKC, conducted by Rev Tish Malloy at 1:30 Thursday, May 8. Memorials may be made to Totts Gap Institute, Bangor, PA.
