John S Simmons

John Samuel Simmons, 82, died Saturday, April 13, in the Putnam County Memorial Hospital at Unionville where he had been a patient for several months.

Mr. Simmons was born on September 11, 1885, in Sullivan County, the son of William and Sarah (Dixon) Simmons. He was married to Ellen Bell on April 10, 1905, in Putnam County. Engaged in farming, Mr. Simmons had spent his entire lifetime in Putnam and Sullivan Counties, residing in Unionville for the past 10 years.

In addition to his wife who died in 1966, he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Marie) Blythe of Knoxville, IA, Mrs. Carroll (Louise) Hill of Unionville and Mrs. Earl (Mildred) Van Eck of Melcher, IA; three sons, Bud, Vier and James Simmons all of Unionville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Blanchard and Eva Holyoak, both of Great Falls, MT, and one brother, Emmet Simmons, of Los Angles.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Comstock Funeral Home in Unionville conducted by Tom Casady, of the Unionville Broadlawn Baptist Church. Burial was in the Pherigo Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Probasco, George Hymes, David Simmons, Johnny Van Eck, Frank Simmons, and Gerald Christiansen.
