YORK - Elvis Reed, 86, husband of Elida Mae (Giggie) Reed of Beech Ridge Road, died Wednes-day, June 29, 2005, at York Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Saltillo, Tenn., the son of Nev and Rosa (Clausel) Hendon and attended local schools.
While in the Air Force during World War II, he was transferred from Mississippi to the Presque Isle Air Force Base. He met and married a young local woman, Elida Giggie. They had been married for 61 years. After his service discharge in November 1945, Elvis worked as a trailer truck driver until 1965 when they moved to Kittery. He was employed as a carpenter for area construction companies working on the building of the Kittery Trading Post and a local trailer park. Elvis moved to York Harbor and became a private caretaker for two families for 30 years before moving to Beech Ridge Road. He attended the York Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the York Street Baptist Church, York Street. Interment will follow in the First Parish Cemetery, York. (Bangor Daily News 7/1/2005)
