Addie loved people and had many friends. He farmed and doctored sick cows and animals in the community. He enjoyed trading horses and had a fine reputation as a natural veterinarian, without license to practice. Later in life, Addie set up a blacksmith shop behind his home in Carrier Mills.

He died tragically when struck by a car while walking along the road outside Stonefort about 7:30 p.m.
