His obit said he was born in Ohio,but the 1900 Kansas census says he was born in Iowa and he had a twin brother Marion that was murdered in 1899. He died in the hospital at Osawatomie ,Kansas .He is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Lawson Mayes. The obit said he was survived by his three children
Mrs. Cordelia(Lewis Eli) Austin,Mrs. Matilda"Tillie"(James) Brown of this place and Chole Edna Aines(Lewis Hopkins" of Overland Park ,Kansas and two brothers Rollo of Gardner and Tom Mayes of Louisburg and one sister Mrs. Nancy Coffia. He had a son Tom Mayes in the 1900 census who was born in Tn. April 1880.Tom moved to Mo and is buried in Kansas City,Kansas and his brother John was still alive, and his sister Martha in Oklahoma and Lillie was alive also at the time of his death.Franklin was alive living in Anderson Co. Coal Creek (Lake City now) Tn.,soon to be known as Rocky Top

He was married three times to. Martha Winkler and Jennie Moore age 18 m:5/20/1886 he lived in Wilder ,Kansas and she was from Cedar Junction and he and Jennie were divorced... he married Rebecca McClure .Martha and he had three children,Thomas,Cordelia,and Matilda"Tillie",Chloe Edna Aines with Rebecca Mcclure.
