William "Tony" Abshear, 78, of Lynn, IN passed away early Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011 at Reid Hospital and Health Services in Richmond, IN. He was born October 29, 1932 in Winchester, KY the son of Frank and Lilly (Bush) Abshear. He honorably served in the US Army.
Tony retired in 1997 as a Journeyman Machinist, having worked at Natco of Richmond and Luick Quality Gauge and Tool of Muncie. He enjoyed spending his leisure time as an avid sports fan, favoring the Kentucky Wildcats, Butler Bulldogs, Cincinnati Reds and the Indianapolis Colts. He was musically gifted, playing the guitar and most enjoyed country gospel music. He enjoyed clock repair and gardening. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Tony was active with Habitat for Humanity in Randolph County for many years. He had taught Sunday school, while attending the Lynn Friends Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 58 years, Patricia "Pat" Abshear; a son, Brent Abshear (wife, Sharon) of Lynn, IN; a daughter, Linda Abshear of Fishers, IN; a brother, John "Doc" Abshear (wife, Norma) of Upland, IN; five sisters, Lula Mae Puckett of Winchester, KY, Betty Rudd of Mt. Sterling, KY, Clara Brumback (husband, Jim) of Versailles, Ky, Phyllis Spivey of Winchester, KY and Francis Tice (husband, Ron) of Union City, IN; a grandson, Jason Abshear (wife, Kelli) of Lynn, IN; four great grandchildren, Baylee Farmer, Mason Farmer, Carter Abshear and Kimber Abshear. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Moab, Ray, Clarence and Harold Joe.
A service to celebrate Tony's life will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Friends Church of Lynn 311 S. Main St. Lynn, IN with Pastor Syd Martin officiating. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4 - 8 pm Friday, Feb. 11th at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends Church of Lynn.
