Catherine Funkhouser Liles, 85, of Harrisonburg, died Monday evening, Feb. 12, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Liles was born April 22, 1921, in Dayton, and was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Edith Suter Funkhouser. She graduated from Madison College (now James Madison University) in 1942 and taught school in Henderson, N.C. before marrying Henry C. Liles in 1944 and moving to Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Liles died in 1959. She returned to Harrisonburg in 1978 and was an active and faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she served as librarian. Surviving are sons, Henry C. Liles Jr. (partner, Douglas Brenner) of New York City, Charles A. Liles (wife, Lisa) of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two grandsons, Charles A. Liles Jr. and David A. Liles. Also surviving are a brother, J. Richard Funkhouser (wife, Mary) of Harrisonburg and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Liles was the half sister of Lois Yager, Nancy Durham, Janet Ellis, Margaret Forbes and H. Gray Funkhouser, all of whom preceded her in death. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Trinity Presbyterian Church by Dr. Ann Reed Held. The family will receive friends following the service. The interment of ashes will take place at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro in the spring. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the building fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 725 S. High Street, Harrisonburg, VA.
