Rev. Jacob Ashburn, Jr., was born November 11, 1872, in Western Branch, Virginia to Jacob and Penelope "Penny" (Copeland) Ashburn. He was called home suddenly to be with Lord September 15, 1955, at his residence in Columbus, Ohio.
Rev. Ashburn was pastor of the Oakley Avenue Baptit Church for 38 years and served his community faithfully and well. He was known the county over for his good works not only in the field of religion but in the more difficult fields of politics and human relationships; serving as an Ohio Legislature in 1945 and 1946 and leader of his people did much to establish their rights and responsibilities.
He was a graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary of Lynchburg, and a member of Hilltop Lodge of Masons.
Jacob's memorial is comprised not only of the Church and congregation he tended so continuous contributions to the harmony, understanding and progress among people of all classes and races.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Penelope Ashburn.
Jacob is survived by his wife, Virginia Ashburn; two sons, Rev. Julian Ashburn of Los Angeles, and Rev. Richard Ashburn of Sandusky, Ohio; on daughter, Evelyn Gibson of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Rev. Arcelius Asnburn of New York City; two sisters, Aurella Johnson of New York City, and Dr. Eudora Ashburn of Chicago, Illinois.
