Myrtle Olina Hammonds White, 91, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012, surrounded by family at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born February 17, 1920 in Scott County, Virginia, one of 13 children, to the late Joseph and Maude Knowles Hammonds. She lived most of her life in the West View Community of Kingsport. Myrtle was a member of New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, C. Clifford Pop White; her parents; brothers, Clarence Hammonds, Farley Hammonds, Elmer Gwyn Hammonds, Paul Hammonds, James Hammonds, Louia Hammonds, Issac Hammonds; sister, Nella Mae Hammonds; and granddaughter, Laura Olina Littleton.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Olina Grills and husband, Bill, Clifford Allen White and wife, Jeanie, Eldora Evangaline Chappell and husband, Terry, Anita Maria Bridwell and husband, Richard; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Pearl Linkous and Beulah Fae Scott; brothers, Ballard Hammonds and Charles Hammonds; Goddaughters Brenda Bowman and Linda Dingus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6-8:00 pm at New Hope Evangelical Church, formerly Lynn Garden Presbyterian Church with a funeral to follow in the church sanctuary with Pastor Richard Willis and Rev. Raymond Hammonds officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1116 Nelms Lane, Kingsport, TN 37665-1956.

The family would like to thank Myrtle's special friends, Irene Boggs and Ollie Miller, the deliverers of Meals on Wheels and the staff and 5th floor at Indian Path Medical Center.
